GILBERT B. LADEN

Gil Laden is a nationally respected authority on Social Security disability law and has represented thousands of disabled individuals in his over 30 years of law practice.  He has been certified as a specialist in Social Security Disability Law by the National Board of Social Security Disability Advocacy, as acknowledged by the Alabama State Bar.  He is a Sustaining Member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR).  He has been selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers® Edition 2008, which recognizes about 5 percent of lawyers statewide.  Gil Laden has been a speaker at numerous seminars at national and local levels in the area of Social Security disability law.

He is active in his community and has served as president of several boards.  He has received numerous awards, including being recognized as Pro Bono Attorney of the Year in 2007 by the Alabama State Bar.

A native of Mobile, Alabama, Gil attended Emory University (B.A. Chemistry 1972) and graduated from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University (J.D. 1977).  He served indigent clients as a staff attorney with Georgia Legal Services from 1977 to 1979.  It was there that he first recognized the need for adequate representation of clients in their claims for Social Security disability benefits.

Gil has lived with a severe-to-profound hearing loss since birth.  He received his first hearing aid at the age of six and underwent several years of speech therapy.  Although he suffered difficulties in adjusting to his hearing loss, he went on to graduate from Mobile’s public school system and earn degrees both in chemistry and law.  He has engaged in the solo practice of law since 1980, concentrating in the area of Social Security disability law, where his first-hand knowledge and experience in living with a disability result in a personal understanding of the difficulties his clients have experienced.
